African Legends Slot (Microgaming)
Microgaming remains one of the most reputable game providers, and they are also constantly releasing new slots into the market.
One of their newest titles is African Legends, an exclusive slot game that also delivers a progressive jackpot.
Just as its name suggests, this title’s action will take place in Africa, with the region’s creatures being a huge part of it.
I love titles from Microgaming, and after trying this game for a couple of days, here is my review:
African Legend features the usual 5x3 reels, and you will form wins through ways to win. The game offers up to 243 ways to win.
For its features, Microgaming uses a multiplier trail, free spins, Rolling Reels, and Wild Blast among others.
Betting and Prizes
This is always my favourite part of any slot game, and on African Legend, I could get started with as little as $0.25 per spin.
The highest amount that can go into a single spin is $25.
The slot offers additional prizes, and one such prize is the fixed jackpot. This one allows you to win as much as 1,200x the stake, or $30,000 from a single spin.
The other one is Wow Major Jackpot. This is the slot’s progressive jackpot whose minimum value is €50,000. However, considering that it’s a progressive jackpot, chances of it going higher are possible.
However, I’m a little concerned with the RTP of 94.92% that the developer has announced for the slot which is way below the average (96%) in the industry. African Legends has Medium volatility, which means that the risk involved is not very high.
African Legends Slot Features
Microgaming seems to love The Rolling Reels, and they have included it in this title too!
This mechanic works by removing the winning symbols and creating new ones, which eventually leads to the formation of more wins.
As you continue forming winning combos, you will advance on to the Multiplier Trail feature. Here, the upcoming combo will award payouts of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x or even 10x.
The Rolling Reels will also give you access to the slot’s free spins. To receive some free spins, I was required to have at least 4 rolls. Depending on the number that you get (could be between 4 and 7), the game will reward you with between 12 and 20 free spins. The multiplier could be anything between 5x and 10x.
Another area of the game that I liked most is the slot’s features’ ability to decide on whom to award the progressive jackpot. To be awarded this jackpot, you will need 8 successive rolls to trigger. If you place higher wagers, you stand better chances of succeeding.
A lot of help will come from the regular wilds, and these can also pay directly, but only if they land on consecutive reels. On most reels, I noticed that these wilds appear in their regular form, but will be stacked once they move on to the 3rd reel.
You can also get extra wilds via random trigger by Wild Blast. This feature has the potential to award as many as 5 wilds.
Theme & Design
Microgaming has taken us on an African safari with this slot. However, the symbols appear as unusual creatures although well crafted.
For the symbols, Microgaming has gone for icons of hippos, warthogs, lions, elephants, and rhinos, while the card suit logos have gone into representing the low-value icons.
In the usual spirit of excellence, Microgaming has created a very decent slot, and overall, African Legends is one of their best 2020 releases.
I love the creativity that has gone into the design, in addition to the interesting features which hugely boost winnings.
However, I felt let done by the developer’s decision to offer a below-average RTP, though it is not unusual to see such among slots with progressive jackpots.
