Aztec Twist (Hacksaw Gaming)
With this title, Hacksaw Gaming has shifted its focus from the usual south of the Rio Grande, and this time, we get to experience the Central American Empire: the home of Ancient Aztecs.
Aztec Twist is the title of this slot machine, and the game takes you on a deep dive inside the culture using lots of colour and stonework to deliver one of the most unique grid slots.
Using the usual Hacksaw Gaming style, this slot delivers a Spartan look, and as a real money gamer, I had lots of fun playing it, and here is my unbiased review:
For this title, Hacksaw Gaming has gone with a 5-column and 8-row grid. There are numerous features among them Free spins bonus, Clusters Pays, Buy Feature, Respins, Extra Spins, Sticky Symbols, and Random Multipliers.
Betting and Prizes
Although it’s a pretty basic slot, there is potential in it, and especially if you play it for real money.
With just $0.20, I could comfortably spin the reels of this game. If your budget allows, the slot allows bets of as much as $100 per single spin.
Top payouts are great here, and the highest that you can get from a single spin is 6800x.
The RTP of 96.36% works perfectly for this type of slot.
Aztec Twist Features
This machine takes a different approach to the traditional spinning wheel. Instead of triggering a cascade feature when winning combinations are achieved, I noticed that Hacksaw has devised an alternative symbol locking method. Actually, this alternative is great at boosting winnings.
A winning combination of 21 or more mask symbols is achievable, and doing so with the higher paying mask symbols triggers a payment worth 40xs the bet. I also noticed that all of the mask icons come with a similar amount.
The same is true for the lower-value form symbols, which can be worth up to 15x the bet value. A wild symbol (hand pattern) can assist you in this game, and I love the fact that I could use it to replace all the regular icons, but not the scatter.
Aztec Twist is characterised by the presence of sticky symbols in various forms. This is one of the ways to trigger the free spins.
The sticky effect occurs in the base game if you land a full row of the same symbol. The row, as well as any matching symbols tied to it, will become sticky.
Respins will come your way until there are no more clusters formed. In addition, each sticky row containing the same symbol is multiplied by a random multiplier ranging from x2 to x5. If there is more than one complete row involved in the cluster, the multipliers are all added and afterwards applied to the cluster.
Scatter symbols are my favourite features, and here, they appear in the form of the sun. Upon landing three of them, Aztec Twist rewarded me with 8 free spins.
You can also use the purchase feature to buy additional free spins.
Theme and Design
The slot is all about Ancient Civilization. There are several various shapes to represent low pay icons, including a circle, square, triangular shape, and polygon. High-paying masks are available in a variety of colours, including blue, green, orange, purple, and red.
With Aztec Twist, Hacksaw Gaming continues its reputation of designing slot machines that are just a little bit different from the norm.
It’s a slot with great potential, and I can recommend it to all levels of players.
