Cthulhu Slot (Yggdrasil)
Cthulhu is a fictional character created by author H. P. Lovecraft, and he serves as the inspiration for this video slot. A horror creature based on one of the world's most popular horror stories makes for an intriguing setting in a game like this.
I must commend both Yggdrasil Gaming and Gluck Games, for the nightmare-inducing tale and layout that they've incorporated here.
Below is my unbiased review of Cthulhu:
The spinning of the reels happens on a 5x3 grid, that also offers 10 active lines. For the features, we get to work with things like Wilds, Scatters, as well as free spins (The Craze of Cthulhu).
Betting and Prizes
The least that I was allowed to use per spin is $0.20 which I find to be quite accommodating for players on a bankroll budget. For the MAX bet amount, you get to use up to $20 per spin.
Cthulhu pays up to 2,000x the stake which is not so bad for a slot with low volatility. RTP is at 95.42% and although this level is not all that inviting, it is ideal for a slot with such low volatility.
Cthulhu Slot Features
First and foremost, let’s take a look at the game's wild, which takes the form of an Eye. This one can be used as the replacement symbol, fulfilling the typical role that it does in most slots’ games.
However, there are other features in this slot that can pay out more, the most notable of them being the free spins (Craze of Cthulhu). You'll require all three scatters available on the slot to trigger the free spins. Each has its own reel (1st, 3rd, and 5th), and with all being visible on the reels, you earn 10 free spins. When retriggered, the feature gives an extra 10 spins.
Adventurers may occasionally land on the reels, and when they do, they will come across the minions of Cthulhu. From time to time, you might come across Adventurers that turn into wilds, and whenever that happens, these will remain in their positions until the end of the feature.
Also, Scatters can land in wild positions, and in such a scenario, they transform into a new symbol that will be useful for both roles.
Theme & Design
- P. Lovecraft, in The Call of Cthulhu, has been a great inspiration for many game developers, and especially for horror-themed slots.
The slot has an exciting crew of fighters that include rogues, bards, sailors, wizards, and knights. For the low-paying symbols, there are images of four card suits.
The slot has other symbols like a Diamond, Wilds, and Cthulhu scatters.
If you want an interesting slot machine with features and graphics that you won't find anywhere else, I recommend Cthulhu. However, the low RTP ends up hurting it, and if you want better odds, then this game is not the best choice.
