Day of Dead Slot (Pragmatic Play)

Day of Dead Slot (Pragmatic Play)Day of Dead is a new slot machine from Pragmatic Play that is launching in time for Halloween. It is inspired by a popular Mexican holiday.

Though we've seen this idea implemented into a game before, it's still exciting to see how this particular creator approaches the concept. Increased volatility makes the game risky, but there are evident benefits as well.

Here is more:

Game Set-Up

Day of Dead features 5x4 reels and 20 active lines. Various features have been incorporated, including standard wilds, free respins with an increasing multiplier, as well as expanding and walking wilds and free respins with an increasing multiplier.

Betting and Prizes

Wagers in Day of Dead can be as low as $0.20 per spin, but I also saw an offer of up to $100 per spin. The game's biggest jackpot can go to as much as 4,500x the stake, which means that if you wager the maximum amount, you might win up to $450,000 in a single spin.

Additionally, this slot offers a very good RTP of 96.50% which is above average for a modern title. It is a highly volatile game though, and one that must be approached with caution especially by real money gamers.

Day of Dead Slot Features

The standard wild is the one that is coloured green, and it will be used as a replacement for any other regular icon as long as it lands on an active line.

When I combined the Tombstone with the other wild, I noticed that I had much more fun out of it. Because it is an expanding wild, it has the potential to take over the entire reel. It also initiates a respin mode, during which the wild reel slides to the left side of the screen until it exits the playing area. The respins can go on until there are no more Tombstone wilds in view.

The free respin option makes use of the same respin principle, with growing wilds. Three scatter symbols must appear in the first, third, and fifth columns to activate the feature.

If you collect all of them, you'll trigger a bonus that awards free respins, but only if you keep Tombstone walking wilds on the reels. The feature will terminate when the final Tombstone Wild exits the game area.

This feature may also involve more than just these walking wilds. Also, you collect certain standard Tombstone icons that may appear in view, and they may also reappear as Walking Wilds.

As the respins begin, you'll have two of the standard Tombstones, one of which will award you your first Walking Wild. From there, you'll want to gain additional Walking Wilds in order to sustain the feature. It could be a random event that triggers the wild, or it could be a fresh expanding wild that appears on the reels by itself.

Theme & Design

Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico has been a significant source of inspiration for game developers, and we see a number of new ones appear each year with similar designs. I'm not sure what it is about these games, but they all look stunning; this highlight how well the concept works for a slot machine.

Day of Dead's symbol list begins with four card suit symbols in the lower-paying slots, followed by medium icons (drum, guitar, and noisemakers), and premium symbols (dog and three figures with painted faces that resemble skulls). Last is the feature symbols, including a Skull Scatter, standard Headstone Wild, and an Expanding Wild.

It is all about the walking wilds and their respins in Day of the Dead, which is not an awful mechanic to have in a slot machine. However, it is not a new thing, as you will find that it is used in many other video games in different versions.
