Stars of Orion Slot (ELK Studios)

Stars of Orion Slot (ELK Studios)ELK Studios is gearing up to release Stars of Orion, a slot that borrows its theme from space and nature.  The concept is reasonable as this developer has a track record of producing games with eye-catching graphics, and a wide variety of intriguing features.

The new slot is very attractive, and I was tempted to play several spins for real money. Here is my unbiased review:

Game Set-Up

The developer has used quite a large game area, and the slot is set up on 6x8 reels with a Cluster Pays system.

For its features, Stars of Orion offers free drops, wilds, super symbols, superclusters, Magic Meters, plus five different modifiers.

Betting and Prizes

ELK slots seem to rely on the same betting range for all their games, and it is the same thing that we find won this title. For a spin, you can use anywhere between $0.20 to $100.

Stars of Orion offers what I would consider above-average payouts, and on a good day, you may be lucky to land wins of up to 10,000x the stake, per spin.

What I find to be less appealing is the 95% RTP, a figure that I’ve been seeing lately with new ELK Studios slots (their older slots offered 96% returns).

Stars of Orion Slot Features

You'll come across a Cluster Pays slot which has dropping symbols, so winning clusters is only the beginning of the action. To get paid, I needed 5 or more matching symbols forming a cluster.

Super symbols appear in special blue locations and, if they are part of a win, they spread the special game area to all icons in the cluster. All positions will then be replaced with the symbol that is highest in value, and it can result in the formation of a SuperCluster.

The wild symbol is part of the paying symbols, and it can serve as a substitute for the regular icons. This is a great way to form more clusters, but you cannot use it to replace the scatter.

As clusters form and symbols fall, they are collected in a special Magic Meter, which is displayed on the right. When you reach a new level, it will activate a multiplier or a bonus feature. This metre can produce multipliers of up to 64x.

Several magic features can be triggered, among them:

Orion’s Belt (3 wilds added in an extra drop)

Symbol Swap

Orion’s Shield (8 wilds added)

Orion’s Club (6 extra wilds added)

Orion (13 wilds coming from an additional drop)

You can trigger up to 10 free drops by landing 3 scatters anywhere in view. However, please do note that the Meter doesn’t reset between these free spins.

Theme & Design

With the stunning stars in the night sky as the backdrop, Stars of Orion positions the reels in an ancient temple that appears to have been built by druids.

Tall stone pillars will support the reels, which will be adorned with a wide variety of symbols. The outer area of the design is lovely, but the symbols are pretty straightforward and visually unattractive.

Some of the symbols are simple gemstone-like icons that are coloured blue, green, purple, or green. Others are yellow-coloured drawings of diverse wild animals and birds (wolves, birds, and elks.)

It's a decent game, the usual high-quality production from ELK Studios, with a good set of options and a unique gameplay style.

The slot is not very risky to play but its low RTP makes it more suitable for casual gamers.
